By Daiem Mohammad
Daiem is a journalist with the Focus Media Arts Centre
4GetAboutItTV is a youth focused talk show produced by young people involved in Regent Park TV. In the newest episode of 4GetAboutIt TV, regular hosts, Daiem Mohammad, Jamelia Parnell, Saima Islam and Samir Abdella discuss their perspectives on COVID-19 and, in the light of easing of mask mandates and restrictions, are youth still concern with taking precautions.
The discussion is inspired by the upcoming lifting of mask mandates, and is lead by the question; “are you still afraid of covid?”.
What would initially be observed as a resounding “yes”, upon further inspection, the question becomes more complicated and more nuanced. Host Jamelia Parnell follows this line of thinking, as she will take her mask off in situations where she is comfortable, but for the most part will keep her mask on. In this episode, she is wearing her mask throughout the episode.
Daiem speaks on his frustration with international vaccine equity, and that, despite a high percentage of Canadians being double vaccinated, the lack of access in third world countries leading to the formation of COVID-19 variants which have prolonged the pandemic beyond what any of us assumed it would be.
We hear Samir’s perspective as well, as he outlines his hesitance and reluctance surrounding the vaccine, and the group hears him out and has a conversation.
In the newest episode of 4GetAboutIt, you will hear laughs from 4 Regent Park youth, talking about their experiences, their thoughts, and their opinions.
