Feb 22, 2024 SDP Meeting: Progress and Planning

On February 22nd, the Social Development Plan (SDP) meeting in Regent Park saw significant discussions and decisions aimed at enhancing community engagement and efficiency.

One of the pivotal discussions centred around the frequency of meetings. Joel initiated the conversation by suggesting a return to bi-weekly meetings, emphasizing the need for flexibility in scheduling to accommodate diverse activities like Shaping Culture. Walied supported this proposal, advocating for additional planning meetings between quarters to ensure adequate preparation. Michael echoed the importance of regular planning sessions, underscoring the necessity for weekly meetings to support quarterly Stakeholder Table (ST) gatherings. Adonis concurred with Michael, leading to the decision to continue weekly meetings with a flexible agenda.

Quorum was a point of contention, with Adonis highlighting its absence. However, a decision was made to continue weekly meetings, granting attending members the authority to cancel based on the agenda. The scheduling of evening meetings was also revised to better suit the community's needs, with facilitators postponing discussions to accommodate resident participation.

Survey initiatives to gauge community preferences and demands were also discussed extensively. Efforts were made to streamline the survey, separating questions concerning RPNA and SDP memberships. The emphasis was on inclusivity, with plans to distribute physical copies and leverage various platforms for maximum outreach.

Recognition of community contributions emerged as another significant theme. Adonis stressed the importance of outlining committee composition, while Gail proposed incorporating recognition into meeting agendas. The facilitator emphasized the need for broader consensus before implementing formal recognition processes.

Despite some matters being deferred due to time constraints, the meeting showcased a collaborative effort towards fostering community involvement and addressing pertinent issues. Moving forward, the SDP remains committed to inclusive decision-making and empowering residents in shaping the future of Regent Park.
