The Importance of The Children's Book Bank to the Children, Teens and Adults of the Regent Park Community

To celebrate their 15th anniversary, The Children's Book Bank hosted a Book Sale for Grown-Ups on Saturday May 27th and Sunday May 28th 2023 from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM at Daniels Spectrum Centre. At the celebration, the book bank had a huge selection of books all priced under $5. The proceeds of the book sales will go to support their on-going children's programming.
The Children’s Book Bank was founded by a small group of dedicated individuals who saw the importance of ensuring that all children have access to books. Since 2008, the Book Bank has grown and reached more families as a result of the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations who have donated funds, books and their time.
The Book Bank is an invaluable resource available to families, school groups, and teen readers aged 12-18. The book bank is unique in that each person can select a book for themselves or a young reader in their life, and come back as many times as they wish. Children and youth can build libraries at home that cater to their interests. The atmosphere within the book bank is playful and light. The carefully curated colours, shapes, and stuffed literary characters invite each visitor into the delightfully skylit space. The community can access the book bank at the Daniels Spectrum building at 585 Dundas Street East from the second floor.
The Children’s Book Bank is open for community drop-in each Tuesday to Thursday from 10am to 6pm, and on Saturdays from 10am-3pm. Story time for Students have bookable slots available for school groups up to age 12, Mondays and Fridays. FOCUS Media Arts Centre (FOCUS) is a not-for-profit organization that was established in 1990 to counter negative media stereotypes of low income communities and provide relevant information to residents living in the Regent Park area and surrounding communities.
