Intuitive Artistry: Chris Fung's Art Exhibition in Moss Park

On July 24th, we visited Moss Park to meet modern artist and resident Chris Fung. At 183 Queen Street East, Chris Fung hosted an art gallery showcasing his numerous paintings. The exhibition, titled "Sweet Peeps," was open for viewing from 5 to 8 PM, attracting several visitors to see his beautiful artwork.
Chris Fung offers a unique perspective on art, life, and community. Raised in a large family surrounded by artists at birth, he was raised with an emphasis on creativity. Chris Fung pursued film production at York University, embracing artistic expression's intuitive and spontaneous nature. He describes his approach to painting as largely intuitive, using oil paints for their forgiving nature, which allows for a freestyle that embraces mistakes as opportunities for growth.
Chris Fung’s Catholic faith is integral to his identity, informing both his art and his worldview, viewing art as a means to evangelize and express eternal truths. His belief that being with God precedes doing, reflects his desire for his creative work to be a natural extension of his spirituality.
Living in Moss Park, Fung is inspired by the vibrant energy of the neighbourhood. Known for its negative stigma and challenges, including homelessness and addiction, Moss Park is also a place of strong community and human connection. Fung finds beauty and inspiration in the area, where people openly share their life stories. This dynamic environment fuels his artistic practice, allowing him to explore the complexities of human experience through his work.
