Council Reports Highlight Local Challenges

• Affordable Housing: Councillor Kostenchuk reported increased inquiries about affordable housing at the Home Assistance Neepawa and District (HAND) office, reflecting growing demand in the community.
• Yellowhead Centre: Councillor Pottinger noted that the Yellowhead Centre, facing scrutiny due to the aging arena’s condition, is working through rink contracts and budget considerations, with potential upgrades or replacements looming.

Recycling and Environmental Stewardship

Multi-Materials Stewardship Manitoba’s report on waste and recycling in Neepawa revealed an increase in recycling contributions, likely tied to population growth rather than improved recycling habits or reduced contamination. The study provides valuable insights into the effectiveness of the town’s recycling program.

Support for the Handi-Van

The Handi-Van organization formally requested Council consider an annual contribution of $1.80 per capita—approximately $10,000—to support operations and save for future vehicle replacements. The request has also been extended to neighboring RMs.

Age-Friendly Manitoba Grant

Neepawa received a grant to fund a collaborative initiative involving HAND, the Handi-Van, ArtsForward, and the Town’s recreation department. This program aims to enhance social opportunities for seniors, with more details to come in the new year.
