New Friends and Building Networks at Youth BBQ
Building new friendships, getting to know new people, is not easy, especially for Youth.
The MIA Youth BBQ opens doors for Youth to meet, play, and have a lot of fun. organized by the Manitoba Islamic Association, MIA. The MIA is the oldest and largest membership based Islamic organization in Manitoba.
This episode of "Civic Platform" features Walid Alkhattab, Youth Director at the Manitoba Islamic Association, MIA.
Alkhattab tells us about the importance of these activities for Youth, which contribute in some way to building relationships and friendships between Youth, especially immigrants and newcomers to Winnipeg.
Alkhattab talked about the association’s role in connecting Youth and organizing many events that take their attention and motivate them to participate and attend, in order to help them adapt and integrate into Canadian society. The organization also helps to open opportunities for youth to volunteer and find a job in the programs they offer.
Alkhattab also explained his role in helping Youth who trust him as a friend not as a supervisor. In addition, families also feel safe with the presence of their children in the association, which is a source of trust for them.
“Civic Platform" interviewed some of the participants and employees working in the Manitoba Islamic Association, who expressed the importance of this event to them and its role in the happiness of Youth through its fun-filled atmosphere.
