Revitalization Staff Hold Meet & Greets in the Community

With the selection of Tridel Builders as the new development partner of the Toronto Community Housing (TCHC), the Regent Park Community is entering the 4 & 5 phase of the Regent Park Revitalization.  Anxious to not repeat past mistakes of not doing enough consultations and listening to the community, TCHC and Tridel have embarked on a year long engagement strategy of hearing what residents have to say about the final stage of the revitalization of their neighbourhood. The first part of this engagement strategy is introducing the TCHC and Tridel staff team who will be carrying out the revitalization.

On August 24, 25 and 27th, TCHC and Tridel held a series of Meet & Greets in different locations in Regent Park. The Meet & Greets featured music, raffle, games, vendor booths and of course, staff representatives from both TCHC and Tridel Builders.  The aim of these Meet & Greets was to provide an opportunity for TCHC and Tridel revitalization staff to introduce themselves to residents in the community and to hear first hand, their thoughts about phases 4 and 5 of the Regent Park Revitalization.  It should be noted that not only was front line revitalization staff present, but highlighting the importance of the Regent Park revitalization, residents had an opportunity to talk directly with senior management of TCHC and Tridel Builders including Andrew Delzotto,  a Vice President at Tridel Builders. Thus, the Meet & Greets served as a way for residents to put a face to the corporations who will ultimately be making the decisions about their community.

Among the concerns that residents spoke about at the Meet & Greets was the need for employment opportunities, more space in tenant units, more restaurants and retailers, a better dog park, parking, having affordable spaces for community programming and having more events in the community.

Other upcoming engagement activities include a series of learning sessions for residents on the topic of community benefits, scheduled to begin on Tuesday September 28, 2021.
