Superintendent Emphasizes Need for In-Person Learning for Students

With schools returning to in-person learning for the first time in 5 months, listen to Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) Superintendent Deanna Perry, speak with journalist Bruce de la Cruz about what students and parents should expect for this school year.
 
Deanna Perry is the Superintendent for schools in the Clarence-Rockland area, which entails being in charge of the administrative side of things. 

The interview begins with Perry explaining some of the protocols in store for students and staff this year that carried over from last school year, which include cohorts and quadmesters for elementary and secondary schools respectively, masking and social distancing, and personal protective equipment (PPE) for staff among other things. 

Additionally, Deanna explains that there are protocols in place for students who prefer online learning, as well as protocols should someone test positive for COVID-19 at school.

The conversation then moved toward how easy it is for parents and students who may be unsure of some of the guidelines to go online and ask questions, with communication being key during these times. 

Deanna also wanted to say how hard the educators under her care have been working, and how well they have stepped up to the plate to ensure that students this year are getting the best education with the available means. 

To conclude, there was a discussion on how disruptions to students’ learning have affected some students' level of knowledge as opposed to others, and how the UCDSB is keeping a watchful eye to close the learning gaps through whatever resources necessary.
