Women’s Soccer Tournament at Regent Park encourages Women of all Ages and Wages to Participate in the Sport

On May 6th the Toronto Futbol Athletic Advancement Academy (TFAA) organized a Women’s Soccer Tournament at Regent Park Southside Hockey Rink. The Women's Soccer Tournament was a 6v6 (with goalies) Futsal event. Teams competed in two groups of four, with the top 2 teams from each group advancing to the knockout rounds. Residents from Regent Park and surrounding areas came to watch the women play in support and food vendors were present on the site as well.

The Toronto Futbol Athletic Advancement (TFAA) is a soccer academy and recreational sports league in downtown Toronto. Established in 2018, TFAA has provided the Regent Park Community with a soccer program for all ages and wages. Their initiative is to provide top-tier competitive soccer training programs that were not accessible to minorities, at-risk youth or low-income residents in the area. A core group of young women from the Regent Park community joined and because of this, it has encouraged more women from all around the city of Toronto to do the same. As a result, TFAA is bridging the gap when it comes to affordable, accessible soccer for girls in the Toronto area.

TFAA is committed to providing greater access to the game, and this tournament is just one way they’re working to make that a reality. They believe that every woman deserves the opportunity to play and compete in a safe, inclusive space. Lastly, TFAA organized this tournament to create a supportive environment that fosters a love of soccer among women of all backgrounds and a space for women to grow and nourish their athletic skills.
