Manitoba Start Highlighting Jobs for Newcomers from Ukraine

The Province of Manitoba has recently received many Ukrainian families. These families don’t have any experience in the Canadian labour market and therefore don’t know how to benefit from their previous experience to obtain jobs in Manitoba.

Manitoba Start is a not-for-profit organization with charitable status funded by the Government of Canada and the Government of Manitoba. Since 2010, they have served over 30,000 new immigrants to Manitoba. (stats from Manitoba Start website)

The organization conducts many events that help the newcomers adapt and get jobs through a direct meeting with employers. This gives job seekers and employers the opportunity to meet in one place, and makes it possible for employers to find the right person for their organization.

The 17th episode of "Civic Platform" features The Ukrainian Spotlight on Employment. It is a series of virtual sector-based events run by Manitoba Start and are held on a weekly basis.
"Civic Platform" attended the session and asked questions about the importance of these events for newcomers.

This session covered:

  • A business representative from Loblaw, Assiniboine Credit Union and CIBC Bank will provide information about who they are and what they do
  • Typical jobs they hire for including open vacancies
  • Workplace culture, benefits, incentives for employees, and general working conditions
  • The application process and how to prepare and how Manitoba Start can help you
  • There will be time for you to ask questions to each of the presenters
  • Ukrainian translation will be available if required
