Fire Destroys St. Andrews, NB Campground Rec Hall
A fire broke out at this Kiwanis Campground in Saint Andrews, New Brunswick inside the rec hall on the morning of Wednesday, October 26, 2022. The Saint Andrews Fire Department arrived on scene around 7:00 am and quickly got to work putting out the fire. Assistance had to be called in from Peter Gowan of Peter K. Gowan Construction, Ltd., who is also a volunteer firefighter, to assist in removing the roof from the burning building.
Nothing from the rec hall was salvageable, including a newly purchased golf cart that was in shortage in the facility. Fortunately, the campground has been closed to campers for the past few weeks, so no one was staying on site at the time of the fire and there have been no reports of injuries due to the fire. Nearby trees were scorched but the rec hall is the only structure showing any signs of damage. Rainfall from the past two days could have played an important role in deterring the fire from expanding beyond the rec hall location. A nearby propane tank was fortunately unaffected by the fire.
There are no known witnesses to the start of the fire at this time, but a camera was installed on site at the rec hall a week prior. Footage from the camera has yet to be made public although police are aware of its existence and will take it into consideration when determining the cause of the fire. The cause of the fire has to be released, however, and investigation is currently taking place.
