Neepawa Council Debrief: Broadening the Vision

With no new business at this first April meeting, the bulk of the meeting was taken up with Council and Department Reports.

However before we got to those, there were also a couple of spotlights at this meeting, starting with a special birthday card for Mayor Hedley from the students of Hazel M Kellington school. As well, Hedley shouted out to the Neepawa Titans hockey team, who were mid-playoffs, and the high school hockey team who recently took runner up in their league.

Events that have recently taken place include the Legion Ladies district meeting, the early bird draw for the farm and leisure lotto, which carries on until the end of April, and regular meetings for Westlake Employment and the Western Manitoba Regional Library. Ones that are upcoming include the Community Expo on April 9, where they will also be collecting coats for the Newcomer Coat Closet, a spring tea and summer barbecue fundraiser for HAND, and free sessions of various recreation activities thanks to a Participaction grant.

As Neepawa comes out of winter, a number of plans are being made in various departments at the town office. Mayor Hedley has met with the planning office and medical clinic, and will be attending the a regional meeting of mayors and reeves at the AMM conference. Manager of Operations Denis Saquet updated Council on pothole repair and steaming of culverts and drains, and talks about preparing for upcoming 2024 projects including work tenders and ordering materials.

Also covered at the meeting were the regular financial reports. The town will be presenting their 2024 Financial Plan later in April.
