Regent Park Community Engages in Street Naming Process

Regent Park residents recently participated in a meaningful initiative as part of the ongoing Regent Park Revitalization Phase 4A: the naming of a new street within the community. This initiative provided a unique opportunity for residents to actively contribute to the neighbourhood's identity by proposing names for consideration.

The street to be named is situated between Sackville Street to the East, Dreamers Way to the West, Oak Street to the South, and Gerard Street East to the North, marking a significant part of the community's landscape. By involving themselves in this process, the residents have demonstrated a strong commitment to shaping the future of Regent Park.

Residents were invited to submit their street name suggestions, accompanied by a brief explanation, to talkregentpark@torontohousing.ca by the deadline on Friday, May 24, 2024. Following the submission period, the top four proposed street names will be submitted to the City for final approval. This process not only allows residents to leave a lasting mark on their community but also fosters a sense of ownership and pride among the residents.

This initiative comes at a time when Regent Park is undergoing significant changes. The neighbourhood is currently witnessing demolition and construction activities as part of Phase 4 of its revitalization. The scheduled demolition at 325 Gerard Street East, 355 Gerard Street East, and 274 Sackville Street will pave the way for the construction of Building 4A, alongside two additional developments. These demolition activities are slated to occur from April to July, signalling the ongoing transformation of the area.
