Businesswoman and long-time community volunteer Paula Hart, who ran for Port Hawkesbury Town Council in 2020, is once again putting her name forward for the upcoming election. She recently shared her motivations with Civic Journalist Jake Boudrot, explaining why she feels a strong desire to serve her community as a town councillor.

Hart has worked as a bus driver with the Strait Regional Centre for Education for over 22 years. In addition to this role, she has been a professional hairdresser for 37 years and also runs a successful network marketing business.

"I think the longevity of my employment shows my commitment to work," Hart remarked, emphasizing her dedication across multiple careers.

In addition to her professional life, Hart is deeply involved in community service. She is an active member of the Strait2Ukraine group, an initiative that supports families relocating to the region from the war-torn country. Hart has also taken part in organizing local events, including a craft fair held at the Evergreen Senior’s Club to raise funds for the Port Hawkesbury Food Bank.

"I have a campaign called Warm Hearts, which started as a small initiative but has grown over the years," Hart explained. "It's a beautifully packaged hand cream gift that includes other thoughtful items, designed to support our seniors, Leeside Transition House, and the Strait Area Women’s Place. This will be the fourth year of Warm Hearts, and it’s been very successful. I’m incredibly proud of the impact it’s had."

Hart’s network marketing business has also allowed her to give back in other ways. She has made significant contributions to the local food bank and was instrumental in helping establish a female hockey team in the community.

"That was especially rewarding," she added. "It’s been a real joy to give back to the community in this way, and I was fortunate enough to play on the team alongside two of my daughters."

Hart believes her strong ties to the community, along with her track record of volunteerism and leadership, make her a strong candidate for town council. Her focus remains on creating meaningful connections and supporting the well-being of all residents, especially the most vulnerable.
