This month, the North Cypress-Langford Council discussed the continued difficulty filling the position of development officer for the Cypress Planning District,heard a presentation from the local library, and considered a funding request from the New Daycare Committee amid its regular business.

Carberry Public Library Branch Supervisor Laurie MacNevin presented on the many unsung uses of the public library, including libraries as community spaces, fostering technological literacy, and using games as educational tools. MacNevin also discussed issues of access in the library, not necessarily physical accessibility but the availability of items like audiobooks and large print books, and also services like training to use computer-based resources. As part of a regional library system with Brandon, Neepawa, Glenboro, and Hartney, Carberry is also able to share resources amongst its library partners.

Council once again heard from the Westman ATV Association with a conditional use request for the same piece of municipal land that they were granted use of for their ATV derby a couple of months ago. Based on the amount of work that the ATV club has done on the trails and the good feedback from the people using them, Council was prepared to grant this on a trial basis. Council also had not received any recent complaints from nearby residents about use of these trails.

Another issue that has come to the table quite often lately is the new daycare centre for Carberry and area. While fundraising is ongoing for building costs, the committee behind the project has asked both the Town of Carberry and the Municipality of North Cypress-Langford for assistance with legal fees involved with the land purchase as well as incidentals. While Council has some concerns about additional future asks, they did approve a $3000 grant towards the project.

Also discussed were the purchase of a snowblower and trees for a conservation corridor, gravel hauling, the shelterbelt program, funding for the Carberry Arts Council, and the upcoming new aquifer management plan.
