This summer, the NB Media Co-op hosted a series of media production workshops at Elsipogtog First Nation, about an hour north of Moncton. One participant, Lance Francis, an Elsipogtog community member and student at St. Thomas University, pitched a story that became one of the most-watched videos of the year.

At a time when transgender rights in the United States face mounting legislative rollbacks, a small television station in rural New Brunswick is making a deliberate choice: to put these issues at the center of its programming.

This summer, two of Southwest New Brunswick’s most visible journalists teamed up to bring viewers something that had been missing from the local media landscape: time.

This Week Uncut, an hour-long weekly news panel show, debuted on CHCO-TV as a forum to examine the week’s top stories with the kind of detail rarely available in short news segments. Hosted by CHCO-TV News Director Vicki Hogarth and The Courier editor-in-chief Nathalie Sturgeon, the program blends the immediacy of television with the context of print journalism.
