Marlihan gives us a sneak peek of UNAPOLOGETIC

Samuel Miriello created the Sam Miriello Show (SMS) in early 2021 to fill the need for a gap in coverage towards community initiatives. In Sam’s coverage, he usually focuses on activism, issues facing our community, and organizations aiding different people and communities in the Montreal area. With experience as a student, having organized demonstrations, creating a media outlet and striving to make various changes in the community, Sam has good connections with various people in the greater Montreal area and aims to highlight underreported events and actions in the community.

In this episode of the Sam Miriello Show (SMS), Sam invites Marlihan Lopez, member of Black Lives Matter Montreal and co-founder of the Montreal organization Defund the Police gives us a preview of the Monday event "UNAPOLOGETIC". UNAPOLOGETIC is a deep look into the Chicagoan Movement for Black Lives, from the police murder of Rekia Boyd to the election of mayor Lori Lightfoot, through following two Black women who are prison abolitionists fighting for Black liberation. The film also addresses Black women's invisibility within the Black Lives Matter movement.

Lopez also discusses her work in Defund the Police and how people can get involved to demand for the SPVM to be defunded and held accountable for misconduct.

Malihan is apart of a live panel joined by UNAPOLOGETIC director and Chicago filmmaker Ashley O'Shay and political strategist and cultural worker Charlene A. Carruthers. This panel is hosted by Cinema Politica on March 29. The panel discussed the film and understand the Black Lives Matter Movement, police killings in Chicago and politics.
