Local 514 turns 1 years old today! This show was created to fill the void of leftist, anglophone, community media in Montreal. Since its creation, Local 514 has gone from a very small team to now having two video journalists and a technical producer working on the show.

We've covered homelessness, the difficulties non-status people experience, Montreal companies that build engines for the Israeli Air Force and more! Thanks to our viewers for watching. On to more coverage in our second year!

Our first episode covered homelessness during COVID-19, released one day after the death of Innu homeless man Raphael "Nappa" André, who passed away near a closed Montreal homeless shelter less than two weeks into Quebec's first curfew in 2021. Recently, Quebec has lost its third homeless person, due to freezing outside in the winter. The 74-year-old man passed away in Montreal's Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood. As we covered outbreaks in the first episode, the outbreaks continue, with 27 shelters in Montreal having outbreaks over the holidays.

Local 514 has also looked into the movement to demand status for all and difficulties that non-status people experience. Specifically, during curfew, there were concerns that during stop and checks, there would be a hightened risk of police reporting non-status people to the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA). Since this story was released, migrant rights group Solidary Across Borders organized a march from Montreal to Ottawa in July 2021 to go to Parliament and demand status for all.
