Montreal Council Holds Statement Meeting on Cultural Development

Following its previous statements on Montreal's economic and environmental development, the city of Montreal held a public session to review its cultural development between the years of 2017 and 2022. In collaboration with the Commission Permanente sur la Culture, le Patrimoine et les Sports, the city reviewed what had been done for the past five years and what could be improved.

The public session was a step into publicly reviewing the assessment of the 2017-2022 cultural development policy of the city of Montreal. The policy had been adopted following a multitude of public consultations. Additionally, it was a way for the city to take actions, answer citizens' questions and highlight the milestones reached that promote accessibility to culture for the different citizens of Montreal.

The 2017-2022 cultural development policy was called Conjuguer la creativite et l'experience culturelle citoyenne a l'ere du numerique et de la diversite. It was the second cultural policy of the city of Montreal.

The policy revolved around four foundations: a transversal approach, inclusivity and equity, the high-tech and high-touch principle (technological innovation) and sustainable development. The policy also had more than 20 priorities such as Indigenous cultures, inclusivity and equity, cultural and creative enterprises and industries, events and festivals and cultural tourism, amongst many other things.
