Pro-Palestinian protesters gather outside of Liberal member of parliament's office

Protesters gathered outside of the office for Liberal Member of Parliament (MP) for Outremont Rachel Bendayan.

Protesters say Canada and many Canadian politicians are complicit in Israel's bombardment on Gaza due to their support for Israel and sending military exports to Israel. Activists are calling for Canada to impose an arms embargo on Israel.

Canada exported more than 90.1 million dollars Canadian worth of weapons to Israel between 2020 to 2023.

The Trudeau government authorized $28.5 million Canadian worth of military exports to Israel during the first two months of Israel's war on Gaza. This exceeds Canada's 30-year record high for sending exports to Israel.

"Apparently elected officials, this Liberal government and most of the pundits in this country don't understand the real meaning of 'never again' because if they did they would be here standing with us, marching with us, chanting with us," said Independent Jewish Voices member of the Montreal Chapter Niall Ricardo Claoham. "If never again means never again only for Jews then it means nothing at all."

Bendayan's office did not respond to a request for comment.

In October, protesters held a similar action outside of Bendayan's office. An activist told Local 514 that activists met with Bendayan to urge her to enforce a ceasefire and Bendayan said she had to serve her constituents, refusing to call for a ceasefire.

The protest was organized by Montreal-based organization Outremont4Palestine. Numerous sister organizations have popped up around the city, including Hochelaga4Palestine and MontrealNorth4Palestine.

These events are encouraged to be a family event, with many participants bringing their children along to protest.
